Neffsville Mennonite Church

Children’s Ministries

Each Sunday morning 50 children are nurtured and cared for in a welcoming, stimulating environment on the lower level of our church. Children are taught biblical truths by capable teachers. Our curriculum, produced by the Mennonite Church, is “Gather Round,” as in gather around God’s Word. The Nurture Commission at NMC gives leadership for faith formation, guided by our Faith Development Profile. The Associate Pastor of Children & Young Families provides oversight for this critical area of ministry.

During Sunday worship, infants through age 4 are cared for by childcare volunteers. An updated Child Protection Policy (see summary here) and screened volunteers ensure that children are kept safe during worship and Sunday School. Children age 5 – grade 5 are included in adult worship, and are provided with activity kits and/or their own worship bulletins. The cherub choir and chorister’s choir sing monthly in worship. A children’s blessing table is offered when adults celebrate communion.

Each week our Wednesday Night Out (WNO) club program from 7:00 – 8:00 pm provides biblical teaching, activities, and a snack for the children:  His Kids’ Club (age 4-gr. 2), Girls’ Club, and Boys’ Club (gr. 3 -5).  A highlight is the fall hayride to a local pumpkin patch. Five times during WNO, Faith Friends meet in the same club groups. They are adult mentors who offer friendship and commit to being involved in the child’s faith formation.

Reaching out to community children is also a significant ministry. Easter Eggstravaganza is held each spring for our children, their friends and our neighborhood. Approximately 90 children spend a Saturday morning with their parents visiting a variety of stations:  an egg hunt, games, crafts, and hearing the Easter resurrection story.

The highpoint of the year is our annual Vacation Bible School held in June. One-hundred children spend 5 evenings meeting Jesus through a Bible story, singing with gusto, making crafts and enjoying creative snacks. Over 60 volunteers continue the ministry of Jesus in this way.

We welcome you to visit us with your family. Come on a Sunday morning or to one of our outreach events. We’d love to have you join us!
