The little kids in His Kids’ Club (ages 4-grade 2), as part of their group activity last night, learned about MCC’s Christmas Bundle program, whereby we put together bundles including an outfit, a small toy, towel, washcloth, toothpaste, toothbrush and soap for a child of a specified age in this country to receive for Christmas. An MCC representative came to talk to the children about the bundles and where they go. The program dates back to WWII. Suzanne King and Bertha Roggie shared with the kids how their families prepared bundles from the time they were about 6 years old – although, at that time, they went overseas!
Marlene got information for Neffsville to put together bundles for 6 children – 3 girls (ages 10, 12 and 14), and 3 boys (ages 10, 12 and 14). She chose older children because MCC said they are more difficult to get bundles for. One child’s sheet was scooped up by a family in our church, and Pam Witwer took another for the Girls’ Club girls to assemble a bundle for. That leaves 4 children for whom we’d like to prepare bundles. Last night, we put out sign-ups providing the kids and their Faith Friends the opportunity to donate items for the bundles. I will bring the lists to Sunday school this week, in case any of you would like to add to the lists. In advance of that, I’m sending you the information and the lists, so that you can give it some thought.
The children will assemble the bundles as their group activity on Wednesday, December 7th, so please drop our donations in the designated boxes in the Fellowship Hall no later than 7:00 p.m. on that date. We must have the bundles at MCC no later than December 8th, in order for them to be delivered in time for Christmas.
Please let us know if you have any questions!
