I woke this morning sometime around 3 AM and ended up getting out of bed and making my coffee at 3:33 AM. For some reason that number 333 seems significant at 3:33 AM. Anyway, I awoke in a way that I rarely do; with two thoughts. One of which I will write about here and one that, well, I am not sure if I am going to write about because it seems to escape me at the moment.
I got out of bed because the two thoughts seemed to be the kind of thoughts that I hear about in ancient books of spiritual fathers and mothers. The stories that begin, “God woke me early in the morning and God said ….” Samuel kind of stuff. So here I am, Lord at 3:44 AM writing about what I woke to write about.
Why? Because I believe that it is for more than just myself. I believe that what I am writing about, this morning and every morning is for me but it is also for all those that may read this. Either today or many years from now. I believe that if what I write is God breathed then it will inspire others to be touched by the hand of God and you too will become more sensitive to the presence of God in your life no matter what time in the day that seems to occur.
So what were the two things that I woke up thinking so fervently?
- Something about my daughter, Sarah, and what she is doing as an instructor for CrossFit. She is sending out daily workouts to inspire the people she is coaching in CrossFit and then they are logging their times on a website she had built for her gym. They are building their bodies and she is building a community around practicing health through CrossFit.
- Now I remember, God would like for me to take some of the things that I am learning from my daughter and apply them to the Missional Order and my overall pastoral ministry in general. I have been trying to do this but have found that it is harder to do with the spiritual life than it is with the physical life. There are a number of reasons why I think this is but since this is getting long I will wait to post that till Thursday. I also, need sometime to think about it. But the question is this, “How can we coach people in a way that inspiring exercises are offered in an accessible way so that people can build their spiritual bodies and we all can build a community around practicing health by following the Jesus Way? How can we too become CROSS fit?
